Pregnancy, Aches & Pains, & DRUGS!

The joys of the effects of pregnancy! And I am in pain! During the last trimester of my pregnancy the pain started. It was my left hip. Oh the pain! I would barely make it out of my car when I got home from work, and I'm sure being a Med/Surge nurse didn't help things at all. Long hours on my feet non-stop. I would make it in the shower and then whatever spot i fell into in the bed was the position that I would stay in until my husband kindly rolled me over when asked or pushed me out of the bed to get me up in the mornings.

I was so ready to get that baby out of me! I just knew that the pain would go away when he was born. But little did I know, it wouldn't. After being on my feet all day at the hospital I was in agony still, but it would ease off with rest. I was getting ready to have it checked out when I switched jobs, and never did. The pain seemed to have gone away, just bothering me occasionally when I did a lot of walking. Then it was just a constant nagging  pain that was easily ignored but never forgotten.

It wasn't until I couldn't lay on my left side because of pain that I finally went to the doctor. You would have thought that I would have gone sooner, me being a nurse and all, but I guess I was afraid of what it might be. I was so afraid that it was my sciatic nerve. Then there were the excuses of being too busy what with work, and new baby, and husband.

This doctor didn't tell me much. Just that it was probably my sacral-iliac joint that was inflamed. SHEW! Well, he just told me to take some strong ibuprofen and I would be fine. That was it. I had my doubts....and I was right. The pain didn't go away, and I started worrying about it being something else. Something maybe even worse.

So I went to see my mother's new MD. Oh! He was so wonderful! He agreed that was the problem (sacral-iliac joint inflamed), and reassured me that it WAS NORMAL for women to experience this from baring children. He explained everything so wonderfully, and gave me reassurance! He took a x-ray right then and there to make sure that there wasn't anything else going on - which there wasn't - and he promptly gave me a steroid injection and encouraged me to walk without stopping for at least 20 minutes a day. Those two things were the best ways to resolve the problem.

So how relieved that I am now! The hell with the other MD, I'm staying with this one who actually knows what he's doing!

So now here I am in pain at the moment. Great. Mainly it's from where he mashed around trying to find the spot that hurt the most for the shot. That was not fun at all! Brought a tear to the eye... I took some ibuprofen a little while ago so hopefully it will ease off. I'm just relieved to have had something done that makes me feel like I've been helped.

So to all you moms in pain....You don't have to be in pain! Go to the MD and get relief today! I should have went sooner. We'll just have to see how this steroid injection works in resolving this pain!

Fingers crossed!
